Edit: Yes, I'm an idiot and should have referred to this watch as 'Master Mariner', not marine master :(
So, over Christmas break, my dad tells me that he found a few old watches from his childhood. These include his watch from high school, one from college and my grandfather's old watch. I asked him if he knew anything about them and he said he thought they were probably "Timex, or one of the other standard companies."
Well, lo, and behold, his high school watch was a JLC Master Mariner!

So clearly after sitting in a drawer for decades, it needs a servicing, which I'm thinking of getting him for a retirement present. What my question is is
1. How do I find someone to do repair on this? Should I go with a private repairer or go to JLC direct?
2. I know that for collectability value, I should refrain from polishing the dial or case. However, the crystal seems to be quite scratched up. Would it be bad to buff out or replace the crystal too?
3. Anything else I should be aware of before sending this out to be serviced?
4. I'm looking for a more modern band (I think this is the original expansion band). Any recommendations for what would go well with this?
