Excited to join the JLC MCC Club! Pics with a quick question!

Just received my first major watch purchase after an impulse bid on ebay. I've been lusting after an MCC 1 for some time, but I had a question about this. The model I purchased was Q1758170 which is slightly different than what I was staring at before, the Q1758470. I'm having trouble finding the difference between the two model #s, I was assuming it was just metal bracelet vs leather strap?

Also, in the attached photos (where my professionally drawn green arrows indicate), usually I see photos w/ red arrows, mine are unpainted metal. Is this normal? I am relatively new to purchasing on ebay, so if there is anything inauthentic about the watch you see please let me know!

Cheers and thanks!

Master Ultra Thin Moon 34

Geophysic True Seconds - ownership experience so far...

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my ageing Oris BC3 with a proper watch - after much soul-searching, I've narrowed the choices down to the JLC TS in stainless steel or the Rolex Explorer. My heart instantly went for the TS - particularly with the news that they're going to introduce the bracelet to the collection with an easy-swap mechanism - as I'd like to use both a bracelet and a strap; but my head is telling me the Rolex will be more reliable, accurate and cheaper to buy/service moving forwards, plus I do love the look despite the two watches being completely different styles.

Given the 770 calibre is relatively untested, can anyone speak to their experience so far with the TS in terms of reliability, accuracy and past JLC servicing experience? I'm unlikely to be able to add to my collection for a few years, so would like to get this decision right!

Thanks in advance...

Need help identifying vintage memovox...

Hey everybody,
I am new to this forum, and I am in need of some assistance. I took a gamble on a vintage memovox, when the seller didn't know anything about it, and wasn't sure if it ran. I recently received it, and to the best of my knowledge, everything is functioning properly, and the watch is running great. Even after some pretty extensive research however, I have not been able to find out what reference it is, or how much this specific reference generally goes for. Basically, I want to know if my gamble was worth it, and what you guys think. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Information on Master Control Memovox (144.8.94.S)

After obsessing over Grand Seikos, I decided to diversify and look at some Swiss stuff. My friend has a Master Ultra Thin Moon so I researched JLC and the Memovox caught my eye. I'm specifically interested in ref. 144.8.94.S because of the black dial, no date, the red accents on the hands, and the display back which shows off the alarm function. I've scoured the web and WUS and there's little information about it. The consensus from my search is that the watch was produced from 1999-2002 and it's the only Memovox with a display back.

If anyone has any additional info, please share! Thanks in advance.

JLC True Second running fast

Hi All,

I recently picked up a Geophysic True Second, and it seems to be running very fast. Using watch tracker over a week or so, it is gaining on average 11 s/day. I would assume this is out of the ordinary, but maybe I'm mistaken. Anyone out there have a similar experience? Is this usual?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Best!

Refurbishing my dad's old Master Mariner

$

Edit: Yes, I'm an idiot and should have referred to this watch as 'Master Mariner', not marine master :(

So, over Christmas break, my dad tells me that he found a few old watches from his childhood. These include his watch from high school, one from college and my grandfather's old watch. I asked him if he knew anything about them and he said he thought they were probably "Timex, or one of the other standard companies."

Well, lo, and behold, his high school watch was a JLC Master Mariner!

So clearly after sitting in a drawer for decades, it needs a servicing, which I'm thinking of getting him for a retirement present. What my question is is

1. How do I find someone to do repair on this? Should I go with a private repairer or go to JLC direct?
2. I know that for collectability value, I should refrain from polishing the dial or case. However, the crystal seems to be quite scratched up. Would it be bad to buff out or replace the crystal too?
3. Anything else I should be aware of before sending this out to be serviced?
4. I'm looking for a more modern band (I think this is the original expansion band). Any recommendations for what would go well with this?

Vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre

I found this vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre watch for £10 in England
It has a case diameter of about 34mm
I am not confident to open it up to see the movement
There is a number on the case back
It seems to run very smoothly.
The chrome plate is worn, the dial is stained and the crystal quite scratched
However I wouldn't change anything except put a new strap on it. I imagine its all original
I think it would be early post war but I wonder if anyone can tell me anything about it
Thank you

Reverso - Catalogue Number Position Inconsistency

$

Im doing some legit check on a model I've been looking at and came across some inconsistencies regarding the location of the catalogue number stamped on the back of the reversos.

taken from a video from govberg watches and another watch blogger, the c-number can be seen below the "reverso" word,

Name: YEbAyAD.jpg
Views: 37
Size: 47.9 KBName: market_image.3867018.jpg
Views: 32
Size: 301.9 KB

but from certain sellers, the numbers are stamped along the side,

Name: 5665986c_xxl.jpg
Views: 32
Size: 63.1 KBName: v2YV7Jv.jpg
Views: 28
Size: 715.9 KB

which seems atypical, considering the rest of the reverso variants have their numbers lining up with the texts of the case (as seen below)

can anyone with more experience in dealing with reverso variants chime in or know whats going on (aka fakes?)

New 560 JLC Atmos Classic: Unlocking balance required a LOT of force...

$

0
As a first time Atmos owner, I was taken aback by the amount of force it required for me to slide the balance lock from right to left to initially unlock the balance after i had made sure the clock was perfectly horizontal via the bubble.

the manual was not specific enough and i really don't know how much leftward force is required?!?

furthermore, the manual said to "...press downwards a little and the slide the lever to the left to unlock..."

i could not feel any difference when i press the lever downwards a little (i.e. i do not feel like there is a notch that pressing down would allow it to pass through). it was as though nothing changed when i pressed it downwards. as a result, i had to simply slide the lever to the left.

it was not a smooth action at all! it was a great deal of friction, and took a good amount of force. i didn't know if i were doing something wrong or that amount of force required was intentional by design so as to secure the balance??

at almost the far left of the lever's movement (almost to the farthest left part), the balance became "loose" and freed. there was a "CLUNK" sound and the balance sort of became loose with some degree of dropping sound, like as though it was dropped maybe a few millimeters! i was startled as i knew the tiny wire (vertical hairspring) is very delicate so that "CLUNK" was scary. that plus the amount of force required to slide that unlocking lever were totally not described and unknowns to me.

may i ask if my experience is normal? or did i goof and did something wrong and might have hard my brand new 560 Atmos?

fyi: it started right away after i unlocked the balance and now, after 15 hours, is still keeping very good time.

but still, i'd like to know if i did anything wrong to educate myself.

in summary:

may i ask how much force it requires to slide the lock from lock to unlock (sliding it left) in general?

is it a very smooth action? or is it an action that feels like there's substantial friction as you slide the lever from right to left?

since it then started (after the lever is moved fully to the left) without any further action on my part, and then now at around 15 hours later, it is keeping good time (thus far), might you think it is ok or might you think there's damage?

thank you in advance.

Attachment: page from the JLC Atmos MANUAL with drawing and description of how to unlock the balance with the lever. Not very clear, imho.

Reverso Duo Bleu or Tribute 1931 black dial

$

I have been looking at TT1931 for quit a while. Recently by luck I came across the duo bleu and placed a deposit to secure it. Blue dial and limited edition; probably the last new piece as I haven't seen it in any boutique before.

TT1931 is much cheaper due to single face but also discontinued and need to source. Should not be that difficult compare to the duo bleu which is impossible I think.

Need some thought.... duo bleu or TT1931 black?

Hello,

I found this at the bottom of a parts bin:

Nice find! Looks almost new, with some glue residue from a sticker. It even has a NOS vintage strap. But it will be not that easy to complete. I think it may house a bumper 812 (28mm looks OK as internal diameter), but I'm not sure. Does somebody know more?

Also, finding parts for a 812 should be possible, but a whole movement :-(

Ultimate Everyday JLC: MUT 34mm or MC 37mm?

$

Dear esteemed hive mind,

I am considering buying my first-ever JLC as an everyday watch. I work in academia, the costume for which is usually a blazer w/ nice jeans and shoes (sometimes slacks instead of jeans but never a suit). I'm wondering whether a Master Control or a Master Ultra Thin would be the most satisfactory/have the most longevity. I've tried the newer 40 and 39mm versions of the models in question but did not bond--the MUT in particular felt disproportionate. Don't get me wrong--I can handle large-ish watches in the 40–42mm range (currently wearing a Speedy), but something about the JLCs didn't feel right. I'm considering older generations of both models--the MUT in 34mm and the MC in 37mm ('Automatique' on the dial). Do you think the MUT is too formal as a two-hander, or is the MC too "not-a-Datejust-y?" I'm think for either one that strap choice would be essential to the watch's versatility. I saw a MUT on a perlon strap and found it provocative.

Thanks for your help!

mut moon time setting question

I was looking at past threads over the past 10 years and I saw a couple posts regarding this watch and the dangers of going backwards when setting the time, that it would break the watch. I recently purchased on and the ad never said anything about it,the manual also does not say anything about it. Is this a problem only with the older modes?
