Question from a novice: JLC Master Control

$

Hello!

I've been a long time admirer of JLC (and a few other fine watches) for a few years now, and am finally at the point where'd I'd like to purchase one - specifically a JLC Master Control with an exhibition case (I really appreciate the subtly and understatedness of the piece).

As someone who is quite a novice I wanted to see what I should expect in purchasing one from the community here (long time lurker)!

I have two quick questions:

First, I know relationships with Authorized Dealers go farther than online sales and retailers like the Tourneau's of the world, but how much should I expect to reasonably pay for one that retails at $6,100 (again, apologies, I'm a novice here)?

Second, for those who own one, or who've owned one previously, I've heard there's a bit of a whirring noise that's noticeable with the watch. Is this true and annoying, or something that's overblown/not the case at all?

Thanks so much for the help and opinions, all responses appreciated!

My father in law gave me this watch but I can't identify it. Seems to have some differences than many I've looked at. Can you help me? Thank you very much.

Ideas that aren't engravings for the back of a Reverso

Hi all,

I can't find an appropriate thread for this. Please direct me if there's one.
If there isn't one, here's my question:

Has anyone done anything that's not an engraving or enamel paint in the back of their reversos?
I have a friend of mine who let his kid put a sticker in it and my friend loves it. I though about having a custom design made into a small decal--the type of decal you'd put in a car or bike-- Does anyone here have something alike to share?

The fine print: I'm aware that doing this will most likely be a permanent alteration (though certain decals can me removed) and would affect resale value. My reverso has a special memory, so it'll remain in my collection for good.

Thanks!

Do all vintage JLC’s have “SWISS” on the dial?

I’m looking at buying a vintage Powermatic- US market LeCoultre-from 1953. (The serial number on the movement is correct for that date.) It’s a black dial that is stated as being original but there is no SWISS at the bottom below the 6 position on the dial. I have other vintage JLC’s. I tried a search of the Forum and found only 1 post regarding the same question but in relation to a 855 Memovox which said that the SWISS or SWISS MADE was not on all vintage JLC dials. My question is: is that the case or was the post correct only in relation to the vintage Memovox? I have asked the experienced vendor about this issue .He says that the dial is original despite the absence of SWISS. The case is correctly marked as made in the USA.
I’d appreciate any help.

JLC Reverso authenticity

Hey guys, I probably know the answer but can you please tell me, did JLC ever use a ESA movement in its vintage Reversos?
I found a Reverso head in a flee market and it has an ESA 924.001 movement with 7 jewels in it and its a very interesting movement as you have to pull the crown to change the time. Pull once move the minute hand 1 minute, pull and hold and the minute hand make a full rotation.

Vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre P478 in need of a second hand

Hello JLC watch geeks,

I have just acquired this Vintage JLC p478 watch.

As you can see it is very beat up, but that appeals to me as it has been well loved and has some history to it.

It is running accurately over 24 hours however it does need a new glass which I will sort out very soon.

The biggest issue is the second hand is missing, does anyone have one for sale or know of anyone who might?

(I have attached pictures for the ones that are correct for this model).

Thanks so much.

Sam

In process of buying a Grand Master Reveil

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of purchasing a Grand Master Reveil. Does anyone here have any experience with the piece and have any thoughts they'd care to offer? Would love to hear some feedback as it's a fairly uncommon piece!

Need help before buying this vintage Jaeger-Lecoultre.

Hi all!

There appeared a great possibility to buy a vintage JLC watch and I want to ask your opinions is it worth buying or not?

All the info I have right now is the K881 automatic movement, the watch is made from solid 18k gold. The dial looks damaged, but definetely authentic one. I didn't found any info on JLC serial numbers from the caseback, but I thinnk the watch is from 1960s.

The timepiece is priced at 600 Euro or 650 USD. Is it worth that amount?

Any opinion is appreciated.

Thank you.

Mystery Jeager LeCoutre movement 203985

Dear All , I am looking at this watch. Well the first thing I have been doing is looking at the movement. No reference to it on google. Caseback says 2369 the is no help either. Now the dial is minimalist 1960's style nothing but two hands and the Jeager LeCoultre logo and Fab Suisse. That does not help ether. Now I don't know a lot about watches but isn't it unusual for a maker of a fake Jeager to take the trouble to engrave the movement? My instinct is that the movement is real but the rest of it is not as I cant see any references to a Jeager that does not even have hour markers. I am puzzled . It is nice though , very clean .

Any thoughts. Thanks Richard

Advice on Geographic

Hi,

I have realized lately that I never wear my watches that are over 40mm so I have been slimming down my collection so to speak. I’m thinking about buying a pre owned JLC Geographic in 38mm. I’d appreciate any thoughts anyone has and what I should look for in that watch. Thanks!

Geophysic universal time strap

Hey all,

I was looking for a new brown strap for my JLC geophysic universal time. I was trying to pull out a bit of color to play off the blues and reds and thought a golden hue would look good.

I also happen to love quick release so I tried some Barton straps. Not bad, but since the JlC has a quick release deployant I would like to fit that. Unfortunately, the Barton straps are too thick at the long end.

Anyone know whAt I should be looking for to fit that deployant? It might just be a standard JlC part but not sure.

And why can’t all straps just be quick release at this point.

Thanks.

Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Duoface (Q2718410) - Questions about winding backwards

$

Hi everyone, hope we're doing well in these uncertain times.

I'm recently got a hold of a Reverso Duoface and its a pretty nice watch. But it doesn't have hacking seconds and the watch seems to running fast if left upright. From my estimate, its running around 2 minutes a week which does eventually add up.

As the watch is running fast and doesn't have hacking seconds, you can't just pull the crown out to readjust the time easily. So my main question right now is what the best method of readjusting the time would be? From what I have read, you absolutely cannot wind the time backwards without running into the risk of damaging the movement. Is that the case? If so, how do people deal with a Reverso that runs fast?

Late 80s/Early 90s Case Number Location

Hi everyone,

I've read over the rules and as far as I can tell, this should be ok to post.

I've found a beautiful Odysseus Moonphase I think I might like to purchase. My understanding is they were produced from c.1988 - c.1992.

I haven't seen a picture of the movement/inside of the caseback, but the exterior of the caseback only has the reference number (141.119.1), and no case/serial number beneath it.

It seems the other watches I've found of this model tend to have the case serial beneath the model number. Everything else does look right to me though, and I would consider the seller reputable.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you very much, I've attached a couple of pictures below!

JLC Master Control Chrono 34mm

Hello,

I am looking for an small and light chrono as my wrist is only 16cm, 6.2 inch.

Therefore, I was considering the JLC Master Control Chrono 34mm for daily use. Anybody has a first hand experience with it?

I like its shape, but I am afraid it may have a too strong 90s look. Any opinions about it?

Has it any luminova? If so, does it degrade and how to check it?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Questions about Reverso sizing

Hello all,

I am currently very tempted to purchase a JLC Reverso, a watch I've thought about for a very long time but I've never dared to take the plunge (probably because it's a very dressy watch IMO and also because of its price, which is for me a serious investment).

But I wonder a lot about the right size for this watch. Here is the problem : I've the feeling that the trend toward increasing watch size doesn't necessarily work well with the reverso (which, for me, must remain a classy and discreet watch, which can easily slide under a cuff).

Furthermore, I've fairly thin wrists (17cm / 6.75 ") and I usually wear watches between 35 and 40mm (the sweet spot is around 37-38mm).

In short, I hesitate between two models (I've tried to summarise the questions I ask myself about them):

1/ The Reverso classic medium thin

Pros:
- The size (40x24,4mm)very close to the original version and which is probably more suitable for my small wrist.
- The absence of second hand, which is also consistent with the initial spirit of the watch.

Cons:
- I'm not the biggest fan of the sunburst guilloché (I regret the models, a few years ago, with a simple silver dial).
- And even if it's only marketing, I realize that this model is now considered a ladies watch...

2/ The Reverso classic medium small seconds

Pros
- The guilloché seems to me more appealing than the sunburst one.
- This model exists with the casa fagliano bracelet.

Cons:
- The size, maybe a too big for my wrist.
- I wonder about the small seconds dial, which breaks a bit the harmony and the simplicity of the dial

I know that the best way to solve this problem is to go to an AD and see theses two models in real. But, before that, I wondered if some people had already asked the same questions as me, especially on the right size of the model for a 17cm / 6 , 75" wrist and how they finally choose the right model for themselves.

Thanks in advance for your answers !

I have received the latest Atmos clock model using calibre 563.

Unfortunately the manual refers to a different calibre (560 and 562 with 562 the moon phase).

Hence I have not yet started up the delicate Atmos clock.

I am waiting for a new instruction manual.

I'm doing a color theme for my watch collection and ended up trying to get a red reverso...The 2 options I have is the 2012 JLC rouge which I know is a collectors item and has increased in value or the current small seconds burgundy reverso which has a sunburst dial in contrast to the enamel rouge dial and is cheaper ...Which one would you recommend ?
