How often, if ever, do you wear it with back side up? Other than when playing polo, of course.

Need insights from passionate JLS owners towards my future Reverso :-)

Hi!

After years of flipping I feel I come closer to know which brands and watches have a real chance of staying and so I am getting more and more into the idea of purchasing a reverso (have been thinking of one for years now, but something always kept me from it)

So I would greatly appreciate any advice and or insights on my following thoughts if I am right, if I am wrong or if I am simply not seeing something.

So the plan is to wear it as an everyday watch, I read the other threads about robusteness of the reverso and well, it was created for playing polo, eh?!

So for day to day use I would of course like

a brand I feel comfortable with (double check, triple check with that 8 year warranty)

a bracelet option (check)

good water resistance (not check, but 3bar should be enough I guess for normal use without swimming/ showering of course)

some kind of antimagnetic property (this is quite important for me because I think it is something to have in a watch for the next decades to come)

and here is my dilemma (but is it? ) that would rule out anything but quartz, and I do not have anything against quartz but the thought as if there will still be quartz movements around in 20 - 30 years.. this thought sounds even more far fetched when written down as it did in my head, but still, watches are emotional things and I would want it to work as long as my body works.

So what do you think? I would go for a medium version as I have quite small wrists and the large models felt too large when trying them on at an AD.

My search boiled down to the 2518140, marketed towards women but same dimensions as on the men´s medium models.

What do you think, a model to get or to forget?

Any input is greatly appreciated :-)

Super excited to have my second JLC join my small collection! Was going back and forth between this and the standard MUT, but I decided on this one as I figured I could dress it down when I needed too. Call me crazy, but I sold my IWC Big Pilot to fund this.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum. I am considering buying a JLC Reverso Grande Taille and came across one on eBay. I am concerned about its authenticity and thought I would ask the experts! The case back seems a bit off to me. Thank you!

Maintaining accuracy

I just wondering if there is a consensus on positioning your watch overnight to help it to lose those gained seconds from the day ?

Were JLC used on adventure expeditions?

I'm a big fan of vintage JLC watches and their technical abilities throughout their history.
I have a couple of their early bumper cal 481 movements which are amazing.

But was wondering if JLC watches were ever used on past expeditions like omega with the moon or Rolex with Everest and deep sea exploration, longines and air travel.

I know they built aircraft and car instruments, supplied armed forces during WW2 and have provided the US navy seals.

So JLC is a very capable company, but dont see many public achievements?

Need Advice: MC Memovox or?

Hello all, new guy here - looking for advice and insider ideas. I will do my best to keep it quick but want to provide enough info so you can provide input. So:
-Budget: 5-8k 'ish
-Frontrunner: Master Compressor Memovox
-Looking for a bit more sport than luxury. I have a few divers so that is not the aim here. Would still like some water resistance as i like a tough/tool watch direction, but want something i can wear with a suit.
-This is my first high end purchase (over $1500 USD)
-Rolex is not an option, I respect them but not interested
-Wrist size just over 8" - i have to think the 41.5 Memovox is the minimum i want and will look sized properly
-I like the last last Breguet Marine big date, some Cartier (but seems too fashion branded), Fifty Fathoms & IWC Aquatimer (but would be another diver) and a few Ball watches (I know down market but like the original story and many of their designs) - just as a style direction
-Resale is a small consideration - i will pass this watch to my daughter in the end
-I originally had passion for JLC after seeing the Extreme Lab 2 but that is above my budget, but made me research and feel deep history of the maker, hence my current leader in the clubhouse
-Like the hand detail and quality of dials and case of GS but most of the case designs are not what I prefer

Since I am in the JLC forum I am ok getting the "go with the Momovox" recommendation but would also like hearing other options from everyone.

I appreciate the help!

Master Calendar Accuracy

I'll preface with this by saying I love the watch and don't regret my decision at all, but........I've had my Master Calendar for almost three months now and must admit the accuracy is not what I expected. My Omega PO hasn't had a service yet and been running for 8 years at +2-3 seconds over 36 hours. I know the JLC is a more complicated piece, but I expect similar accuracy performance out of as watch that is two and a half times the cost.

It loses around 8-10 seconds every 24 hours and it is accelerated over night when it's not being worn. I've noticed at times that it will gain seconds back throughout the day, but this isn't always consistent. The 40 hour reserve seems to be accurate though. It was purchased new from an AD so I registered it in the new Customer Care program for the 8 year warranty. I've been enjoying the watch and didn't want to part with it immediately for repair, but at this point I'm going to have to.

Anyone else have similar a experience?

A recent pick up. It runs great, I feel like I need to find Jaeger to pair up with it though! I don't know much about it, so if anyone does, I would be glad to find out.

Anyone have the Master Control Hometime and can comment on it? Whether you like it, how it fits, how it compares to other comparable GMTs, what you don't like about it? I generally like it but I don't love it. The tones just seem to blend together and looks elegant but ... bland.

Service cost for a reverso with a 822/2 movement?

I am researching for a purchase and I always look at the future servicing cost as part of the factor. I know that the JLC website has a service estimator but I do not have the reference number as I do not possess the watch.

I think in the past the service cost for a basic manual wind was 450 Euros.

Does anyone know if that is still true today for the 822/2 manual wind?

Thanks.

History of the JLC Perpetual Calendar and the cal 889/440/2

I was wondering if anyone had information on the history of the JLC Perpetual Calendar (or a link to a good resource)? I have searched and have not been able to find much. My primary question is the caliber 889/440/2. Does anyone know when it was first introduced? What reference models have used it? I appreciate any information you have. Thank you in advance.

JLC MUT Moon dial discoloration

$

I have a JLC MUT Moon that I purchased from an AD in 2012 that over the last couple of years has started to show noticeable dial discoloration in the moon phase subdial. Please forgive my photography skills, and it may not show up very well, but there is discoloration in two areas just below the moonphase as well as on the date around 27 - 31.

This watch has been a very regular part of my rotation but always kept in climate controlled areas away from sunlight when stored. It has also never been exposed to water. I can ask at a JLC boutique / service center but figured I’d check with other owners to see if you’ve had similar experiences with either this or similar era JLC watches. Thank you.

Vintage JLC help

$

Hello all!

I'm in need of some assistance. I bought a JLC on ebay several months ago. (Ref. e952 with the 819 Calibre) I thought I bought a great example, but over time I noticed some interesting details I missed earlier. The case, caseback and movement look great and authentic, but there are three telling signs that have me thinking I got hit with a bad re-dial.

My questions to those knowledgeable in vintage JLC's are in reference to these three items:

- The 'Swiss Made' label is missing from the dial. This watch was made in the 60's and I think some models of JLC didn't have the 'Swiss Made' label on the dials.

- The dial isn't a sunburst dial, in which I think it was described as on the listing. The listing has been removed by eBay because too much time has passed, so I can't confirm if my memory was correct. Again, this reference may have examples that aren't sunburst so perhaps this may be correct. My dial is a finely vertical brushed 'patterned' dial.

- The name logo of JLC is printed on the dial as 'Jaeger-Le-Coultre' and not Jaeger-LeCoultre'. Was there a time that this was the correct for the name logo? I've see other watches with this label, but I'm not sure as those too could've been redials as well.

This isn't any of the popular JLC vitange models that I would expect to be redone or faked, but who knows? I noticed a couple of similar models online and these were the main differences that stuck out to me. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you
