Another newbie's cry for help!

First time post for me, been reading for a while but took the plunge to sign up today. I have been a fairly low level collector for some time, I tend to get attracted to unusual pieces or ones that just stand out for me when I pick them up. They don't need to be expensive or a top name, just different. I have been looking at the Reverso's for a while and want to take the plunge. If I had the cash I would buy several but I am trying to make my mind up on my first...

I have seen seen the following and whilst the piece should be the one that catches my eye first it is proving difficult. I love the range and the name/history is fantastic.

I have seen the new Tribute Reverso Duo Blue 3908420, the Grande Reserve 3018420, the Grande Date 3008420 or the Classic Large Duoface 3838420.

A slight variation in size and duo type but all of them have something I like.

I was wondering what opinions were out there on each, it may help me see something I haven't noticed already in one of them. Nice to know some experienced views. Thanks.

Another tale of shoddy JLC service

To keep it short and sweet: I had my barely 6-month old Memovox sent in for service in Singapore because it was taking a lot more handwinding than normal to get it going from standstill. Thankfully they covered the service under warranty, but after I got it back, guess what I noticed?

They somehow managed to put it back together with the two crowns reversed! For those who aren't familiar, this is obvious because the crown that sets the date has a big D and an arrow in it pointing which way to turn.

Extremely annoyed, especially if the watch has to go away for another few months to have the crowns switched back. Just thankful that it isn't something worse, but surely one shouldn't have to feel that way when sending a nice watch for service.

Real or Fake JlC Reverso?

Hi,

Tis week I saw this Jaeger-Lecoultre sold by an auction house in the UK:

A VINTAGE JAEGAE LE COULTRE GENTLEMANS REVERSO WRISTWATCH wi

I thought it was a fake and contacted the auction house and JlC in Switzerland. The reference number refers to Reverso Gran' Sport

The watch was sold for 1400 pounds.

Do you also believe it is a fake?

if you could only own one JLC what would it be?

Hi all,

I couldn't find a similar thread for JLC. The more I read about watches the more I appreciate their movements and history. I've come close to own a LeCoultre Powermatic from early 50s in 10k gold cased in USA but it didn't work as described, I've got cold feet and ended up returning it (now I regret that decision). In any case, I found the power reserve complication and specially it's bumper movement sound very charming hehe.
So to the original question, for me based on budget and what I like, a Powermatic in SS signed Jaeger-LeCoultre, black dial and ideally made in 1948 (not sure if in the first year there was SS, but that year is special to me) would be perfect. A special mention to a Futurematic porthole in SS, porthole in particular because is larger that the other ones and for what I read Futurematics had a very ingenious movement and no freaking crown hehe. Maybe the name is the only weakness...
I was wondering what is your favorite JLC and why (if you like to share), curious what other people like best about JLC and a great opportunity to know other models.

Thanks,
Leo

(HELP!) Is this deal too good to pass on?

Hey guys

I've been considering adding another watch to my collection. I recently ran into this watch: JAEGER LECOULTRE Deep Sea Master Compressor Black Dial Black Leather Men's Watch

Retails for $11,200 and its now at $8k (joma), thats like 30% discount.

Hence:

- Should I buy this watch right now?
- Are these prices usual?
- Is it just a marketing gimmick?

So, do I act NOW (with a sense of urgency)? Will I regret if say, I chose to buy it in 90 days from now?

Memovox cal 825 w. water damage - new movement?

$

My late father left a 1960's steel memovox, light dial, pointy hands - I don't have it with me right now, but it looks similar to Cal 825 examples I've found on the web (sorry, can't post links or photos yet)

It was damaged by salt water and never repaired, but it's a beautiful watch and has great sentimental value, so I'm wondering if it could be made functional again, for example by replacing the movement? Is it possible to find these movements in decent shape?

JLC Master Compressor papers

I just got a Memovox in my hands and there's one mysterious thing in the papers of it. There's a four digit number pierced into warranty booklet which starts 37xx and the watch serial number is 36xx. Warranty booklet isn't dated but there's seller's stamp on it. The difference between that pierced number and serial number makes me wonder if the papers are originally from another JLC and then re-written for this very watch.

Do you have any pierced numbers in your JLC warranty booklet and is it the watch serial number, if there is any pierced numbers in it?

Does the reverso case mechanism get loose over time?

I have the reverso and ever since I had it I never really flip the case out because I can see that it is metal on metal contact with the flip out case...
I've only flipped it when showing it to really good friends but not just casually in everyday wear.
Does any one know that the mechanism get loose over time and how does the factory refresh the worn mechanism and the worn case ??

Hello!
I have become a great admirer of JLC watches. At this point in time I am saving up some $$$ so I can purchase a "grail-ish" piece. I have looking at watches similar to Omega's Aqua Terra, Rolex's Explorer, IWC Ingenieur and Zenith's Espada. I don't think that JLC has (presently) any watches akin to the aforementioned pieces or am I misinformed?
Here's some pics to make the thread a bit livelier

Thanks!

I am very interested in either of these watches. But I have not read ANYTHING on these watches other than the Hodinkee article on the Chrono.

I would love if some of you guys chip in and give me some feedback. Are those just not good JLC's?

1. DEEP SEA VINTAGE CHRONOGRAPH
2. Master Compressor Deep Sea Chronograph

I see them for sale for like 50% off used, but not many people really even discussing these.

Anything I'm missing?

JLC Lady Reverso-Fake?

Hi,

I have the opportunity to buy a vintage 18k mechanical lady reverso for $2,450. All the Hallmarks seems to show it's legit but I have one concern. The JLC logo and model number is faded while the serial number is clearly visible. The wear pattern makes me unsure. Seller has sent many photos and answered all questions. Insight appreciated.

What is a good "starter" JLC? Love the Reverso Sun/Moon, but...

Hi all,

I have been getting more and more interested in watches over the past few years, starting with a classic Rolex Datejust that belonged to my late father-in-law. I have a very small collection, including a vintage dress IWC (same source as the Rolex) and a Revue Thommen pointer date.

Along the way, JLC has caught my attention like no other watch has quite managed to do, but my budget is a little more modest than my desires :-( I've been browsing the pre-owned markets, specifically Govberg in Philadelphia (close to me geographically), Crown and Caliber (which seems to have a good reputation), and Tourneau (which I've always thought of as overpriced for new watches, but does seem to have a reasonable selection of pre-owned at realistic prices).

Even though I like JLC, I'm not married to a Reverso. But, my eye has been caught by the Reverso Sun/Moon. The few I've seen in the pre-owned market start at around $7500, and I'm realistically looking at $5000 as my budget.

So my question is, what might fulfill my passion? I think the reason I like JLC so much is (1) it's a storied brand, with history and reputation behind it; and (2) their dials are elegant and clean, even those which have complications. They don't scream "look at me", and I like that.

  • I would prefer a complication such as triple date or reserve de marche.
  • Moon phase isn't important to me, even though I love the appearance of the Reverso Sun/Moon.
  • It doesn't have to be a Reverso.

Is a budget of $5000 just unrealistic for a decent pre-owned JLC? Am I looking in the wrong places? Or should I accept that, unless I can increase my budget, I'd need to look at a different and more affordable brand?

Thanks!

85th anniversary of the JLC Reverso

Tonight, I was invited to celebrate the 85th anniversary of Jaeger LeCoultre's iconic Reverso. it was a small event, about 40 people, with good food, nice flow of drinks, and with many pieces out of display. But perhaps the highlight of my night, was trying on the 2016 Reverso Tribute Gyrotourbillon. This is a beautiful timepiece, and I'm told that this is smaller and slimmer than the previous 2008 Gyrotoubillon 2. I think it looks absolutely perfect on my wrist, but I can still hear my wallet laughing at me...

Hey

Any JLC Chronograph Owners. I'm considering making the Q2068570 my next watch. I would like to hear from some owners and your experiences with this item.

1. Quality control issues?
2. Versatility?
3. Can you post any wrist shots?

This pics are for reference, not mine.

My experience with Jaeger LeCouture service and customer service

$

I'd like to share my experience with JLC's customer service, on my Deep Sea Chronograph.

The watch was purchased new, from my AD, in February 2015.
By August 2015, the chronograph would not restart reliably, but it would still reset.

I brought it in to my AD and we decided to send it in after monitoring a bit more, for a few months.

We sent it for service in early December 2015.
The watch returned mid January 2016.

By April 2016, the watch continued to have issues, until it would not reset properly.

In May 2016, I left the watch with my AD.

5 days later I received a call from my AD:
"__(high-ranking JLC executive)__ is visiting our store, and I just showed him your watch. Uh, they said they will NOT repair it a second time. I'm sorry man, they aren't going to touch it."

** Silence from me **

"HAHAA, they are going to replace it, not repair it! __(JLC executive)__ is going to take the defective one back and get to the bottom of why this is happening. If that's ok with you? Come pick up your replacement whenever."

Needless to say, I picked up my replacement later that day: all new box, tags, strap, etc.

The replacement has been running perfectly, and I use the chronograph at least twice a day.

I feel terrible for people who have had poor experiences with JLC.

I truly believe JLC is working to correct issues and maintain the integrity of the brand.
In another instance, I directed JLC customer service to someone's issue within this forum.
I told them that their unfavorable disposition was eroding the faith people had in them.

A few weeks later, the issue was reported as resolved in this forum. I thanked JLC customer service for restoring my faith in the brand and that I purchased my DSC, based on their resolution with the customer.

In summary: After some hiccups, I did have a positive experience with JLC service. I do realize my experience was fortuitous and unique, by having a JLC executive review the watch. Perhaps it was karma, from my memo to JLC customer service on behalf of someone else.
