Like the click bait title? ;) Anyways, let me first say that my knowledge on horology is about as deep as my knowledge on the mating habits for the south african honey bee (limited, but some thanks to planet earth). Anyways, I just bought my watch on ebay for $3000, instead of the $7200 it would cost me from the dealer. It's beautiful in every way but... (this is where I need your help) when I wear it and the motor moves it makes a clearly audible high pitch whirring sound, not the most pleasant noise. So, though ebay saved me 4k I have a watch that needs to be serviced. And... I'm wanting to get a new strap for it. The JLC dealer said they could customize a strap for me which would normally cost $600 but because I'm so likable they said they'd give it to me for "free" (if I bought the watch through them of course). So my options are:
Option 1:
Buy watch through dealer
Get JLC strap through them
Have 2 year warranty
$7,200
Option 2:
Keep used watch
Order strap through JLC ($600) or alternatives?
Service watch $xxx?
Have fear of it not working priceless?
Would love to know your thoughts on:
Which option would you take and why?
If option 2, would it be prudent to get it serviced through some jeweler whom I find on Yelp who has a lot of five star ratings or through the dealer?
Any recommendations for where I should get the strap? JLC or somewhere else?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Mike
Here's a picture of the beaut.
