Entering the JLC Boutique in Vancouver on Saturday, wearing my 47mm Panerai Luminor, I didn't imagine that I would be leaving with a new Reverso. The fact that I did demonstrates the beauty and versatility of the watch. It is as comfortable as my other watches, and suitable to be worn with any style of clothing and for any occasion, from Polo match to fine dining. The gorgeous burgundy red dial with exquisite matching Casa Fagliano leather strap present a sophisticated package without being flamboyant. A touch of class.
I was with two dear friends, who introduced me to Charlie Feijo, a long time friend of theirs, and a wonderful ambassador for the JLC brand: humble, professional, knowledgeable and great sense of humor. I would heartily recommend visiting Charlie at the JLC Boutique here in Vancouver, whether you have a specific model in mind, or to learn about JLC, or just want to browse watches. Quite simply, first and foremost, buying a watch must be fun, and I had a wonderful time! Along with Charlie, it was a privilege and a joy to be taken care of by Esther and Grace.
We all perceive value in our own way. For the most part, the value I see in any watch, is the pleasure I derive from it. There are also monetary parameters involved. I have to feel satisfied that the price point is worthy of the level of pleasure I will receive. For a long time I have felt the Reverso is such a watch, and more recently almost every JLC model, from the simplest time only models to the most complicated.
As watch lovers, we all have OCD about certain features of a watch. For example, the in house 822/2 movement found in many Reverso models is a rectangular shape, maybe slightly ovalized, making it a great fit for the watch. Having a round movement in a rectangular watch case is a deal breaker for me.
There also has to be a cool factor in any watch. The Reverso was designed in such a way that a member of a Polo team could wear the watch during a match without it getting smashed. A fact I have known for years. Knowing some history makes a watch even more attractive. Also the shape of the case, the proportion, and the finishing details, make this watch unmistakable.
For years, I didnt try on the Reverso, because the flat shape did not feel comfortable. Sort of riding over my protruding wrist bone. I seemed to be constantly adjusting and rotating the watch on my wrist. I found out that JLC fixed this a couple of years ago. The lugs, where they come out the bottom of the case, are slightly down turned, and now the watch sits fine on my wrist. That was a huge factor in my decision to buy the watch.
I am not going into technical details, as this is more a review of my personal feelings about the watch. It is a perfect size and proportion to fit comfortably and elegantly on any size wrist. My wrist is about 7.25in and I love how it looks. The 822/2 calibre is a time tested, famous, robust mechanical manually-wound movement. The crown is a good size while remaining proportional with the case. I have large fingers, and find it very easy to grip. It is very satisfying to wind it up every day, as it has a fairly modest power reserve of 38 hours. The pièce de résistance is, of course, the gorgeous burgundy red dial, equally as beautiful in any lighting condition.
The icing on the cake is the gorgeous red leather strap by Casa Fagliano of Argentina. World famous leather craftsmen, and how appropriate that they also make Polo boots! This, for me, ups the coolness factor for this watch. Its all in the fine details! Here is a link to any excellent review of Casa Fagliano:

Pardon me for rambling on so much. A few photos which hopefully do some justice in illustrating the beauty of this watch:
